Ford focus vignale intermittent starting

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a on going problem with my 2019 focus vignale, It drives perfectly well when it's dry, but if it starts to rain it still drives, until I stop and switch the engine off,  it won't start..? It tries to turnover but it just shakes and you can't rev it,  then it cuts out after 5-10 seconds..it won't start again. If you left it for a day it would start, but then it was days it would take..Then recently it was nearly 2 weeks before it would start..I've tried disconnecting the battery but no change..Also there's never been any warning lights come up on dashboard when this happens. So now I'm hoping someone might know what this could be or what else to try..🤞

I don't think anyone will be able to diagnose your problem from a distance, though saying what Engine and Manual or Auto might help.

Thanks for the reply, it's a 2.0 diesel automatic.

It is so difficult without Fault Codes although there may be some that are not illuminating the Check Engine Light or warning,

My gut feeling that it is an Electrical problem relating to the Auto Box.

@unofix has the Estate version of your car and I remember he had problems with the wiring to his Auto Box but I don't remember if the symptoms were similar or not.

When he reads this later or tomorrow he may be able to help, there was a Thread on here about it but the search function is not very good.

Thanks again, hopefully he'll read this, also someone said it could be the injector driver module, as it sounds like a fuel issue..?? No idea if it is..? Cheers Martin.

I've read it !! 🤣

John (Tizer) has become a little mixed up with I problem I had two years ago with my daughters Ecosport Automatic.

Looking at your problem it would be very likely that Ford specific DTC's are being logged but at this moment are not sufficient to cause the EML to be turned on. The cause could be damaged wiring to the TCM but that would at this stage be a wild guess. You need to use FORScan (NOT a generic code reader) and get the DTC's stored which will give us a clear direction in which to point you. See my post below for details of FORScan.

It's what many Ford owners use including some Ford technicians.
