Ford focus 2009 over revving

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I have a 2009 focus. It has a problem with over revving. It happens a lot even when idle it can rev up to 3000 and I have to press the clutch and put into gear for it to reduce.
I am no mechanic at all. But are there any simple things I can look at it before taking it to a garage.
Also if there is something a I could do a step by step guide would be amazing.

Thanks in advance

Tom

If it's a petrol engine, there is likely to be a vacuum leak on one of the small rubber pipes.

That allows excess air into the engine, so it has to compensate by adding more fuel.

The common pipe to fail is the one underneath the plastic intake manifold that goes to the oil breather on the engine block.

If it's a diesel engine then disregard that and I will rethink.

The 1.8/2.0 Duratec's are notorious for it, especially with the added pain in the bottom of Mazda deciding to hide the PCV valve and PCV hose inside the inlet manifold.
