My daughters fella has been rear ended by a woman who admits she wasnt paying attention, even to the police and she's just got her car back after bumping it previously again due care and attention. To me from the photo's she's sent looks like its popped some panels. Contacted the insurance and they want to write it off, and have engaged the services of Copart to collect said vehicle. This is all new to me, never had a bump or been written off, ive told her NOT to let them write it off until its been inspected. Am unsure of the law and procedures. Any thoughts gratefully taken on board. Looks summat and nowt to me.

Me too, the rear light clusters aren't even broken. A tailgate and rear bumper bound to be cheaper than a new car, right? What happened to the 'save the planet' ethos we're all supposed to buy in to?

Cost of bumper, tailgate and respray plus the work required to replace said panels and trim pieces vs the value of the vehicle.... Insurance company maths?🤔

Yep, insurance company will want brand new Ford panels, and a premium body shop to do work. If you had the option to buy the car back for next to nothing, I'm sure a man of your resource could get a couple of used panels, and a cheaper local body shop. Unless, you don't really like your daughters fella LOL

On what evidence have they decided it's a write off if no-one inspected it? Just photos?

As Stu says, insurance company maths come into play. I  keep seeing similar stuff on various forums and Copart are frequently mentioned (granted they are a big breaker). A lot of people seem to end up taking the payout, buying it back from Copart getting it repaired cheaply with used parts and end up in front.

cheers guys, itsa quashqi or however you spell it. put the panel pins back replace the tailgate. bit of T-cut lol. me and the daughter are quite spanner handy fitting an Fl tailgate to my PFL focus. Her fella has a stiff neck so popping by A+E genuinley no sca.m option he really is in some kind of pain. Am gonna stay on the case.

A Nissan Squishy😂 As long as it's not a Cat S then it's still good to go IMO

I think Nissan call it a, 'Cash Cow' 😂

More like crash and cry.

Quashqai was UK best seller in 2022 and I believe Sunderland have churned out nearly 4 million so far - there should be plenty of used parts around by now!😀

....and on that note, 25,000 Nissan Qashqai have just been recalled due to the battery going totally flat when parked. Not sure of the full details (yet) but they are being returned back to the Sunderland plant for remedial work that can't be done at the dealers.

I believe they placed an order for 10,000 Maypoles 🤣

Hard to tell if the structure has been hit from those pictures.  Plastic bumpers rebound surprisingly well when hit in the 'right' place.  I can't see the insurance writing it off from those pictures though, did they get more than those?

Really need to see the crash bar and chassis behind the bumper to determine whether it's just a bumper & tailgate or not.

UPDATE -- thanks for the responses guys, Their insurance still wanted to write it off spent the day with them yesterday sorting it all out.. However the other drivers offered a far better solution. She and they admitted full liabilty.Take and repair the car, pay £500 upfront and still leave the door open for personal injury, he spent 6 hours at the local A+E to confirm whiplash after a CT scan, painkillers and rest. The only downside is the spurious claim by the passenger in the car for a medical claim, he stitched that up yesterday whan talking to the insurance, said there was sod all wrong with him and out for what he can get. Given them a timeframe of 14 days from collection to delivery and a hire car. So kind of a win win situation. I went over it yesterday Tom with my untrained eye looking for metal panel ripples, door shut closures etc and all looks good just tailgate write off it opens and closes ok, plastics and 1 rear light cluster lens. Got off lightly as allegedly she was doing 50 and hit him when stationary at traffic lights.

Am slightly shocked, within 24hrs of his insurance trying to write the vehicle off it was listed on Copart auction site. Even tho they were told he was going with the bumpee's insurance offer.

Something smells very fishy to me.
