New weatherstrip rear hatch - modification...

Featured Replies

Since I bought my car, it always annoyed me that when I opened the rear hatch when it rained, I use to get a right soaking on my head, due to water always gathering in the gap between the rear screen and the body. I have meant to 'fix' it for years, but wasn't sure how. On surfing for something else, I stumbled on a listing for a generic push fit auto weather seal. I feel confident it's now all sorted. Bonus is that it genuinely looks, 'factory'. Oh, £8 including P&P!

This was the original issue...

I was accused earlier today on another post that I don't indulge in any maintenance, Though to be fair, I don't think this counts as a 'maintenance' issue unless keeping my head dry is one LOL 🤣

There is a Ford fix to stop water going into the boot when you open the tailgate, pair of strips fitted to the side of the tailgate glass - came as standard on the mk2.5 and perhaps later mk2’s

That strip looks neat though and maybe costs less than the Ford strips

I was told about the  'rain strip' years ago, but could never source them, and for me, it didn't look like it was the source of the issue I was having...

In theory you’d be able to order from Ford dealers with the FINIS numbers……

I think they work by guiding the water down the sides of the rear glass when you open the tailgate so it then drips into the aperture around the top corners of the boot, approx where the gas struts mount.

At the time, another member did supply me with the numbers, I still couldn't get them...

Still, happy enough now with my own solution, much satisfaction doing your own bodge 😂

I fitted a pair of the Ford to my Focus around 2009 - it did stop the dripping water....

That does look good Stephen, to save me surfing, who was the supplier ?

This is where I got them, takes a while but worth the wait...

If you do install, try choosing a really warm, sunny day LOL

Chinese, of course.

Indeed, made from power using coal fired power stations of which they now have over 3300, compared to UK's ONE. Though, doesn't that make you feel good?? 🤣

I think you're well aware of my opinions regarding China.

Rain test - works perfectly as expected. You gotta wonder why for the sake of a 10p bit of rubber, Ford failed to finish off the rear hatch properly!

If they make a million cars that's a hundred grand saved.

On a turnover of £25 Billion (a million cars roughly), £100k is petty cash used on toilet paper in washrooms! 🤣 It is 0.004%

Just as Northern Ireland was accidentally left in the EU, we also were left outside the effects of global warming 😂
