    Frequent comment nowadays is that they're not necessary with a modern correctly functioning PCV system.

    I don't use OCC. I limit myself to using an oil with a flash point of 232°C. Therefore this oil carbonizes much less (and therefore produces less residue) than Castrol 0W30 (supplied by the parent company for the Focus ST MK4), which has a flash point of 202°C.
