Wing mirror assembly

Featured Replies

Hi, hit my left-hand wing mirror, Ford Focus Mk1, on a wheely bin as I was leaving home.  Pulled in to let another motor past and hit my wing mirror.  Stopped to adjust it and remembered it's electric. Durrr! The outer case started to come away, so I  looked for the switch to adjust the wing mirror, couldn't find it.

Where is the switch that adjusts the wing mirrors?  As there is no apparent serious damage, I think it's worth asking you folks about the wing mirror assembly.  I have a Haynes manual, they often seem to be missing the bit you need to know about, or call it a different name.

The mirror adjustment switch is on the drivers door.  Right at the front corner of the window.

It's a round dial.  Twist it left or right to select the desired mirror.  Then move the dial up/down/left/right to adjust the mirror glass.

...and they expect drivers of the future to control all functions in a car via an off view 16" touchscreen with sub menu after sub menu... 🤣 We're doomed Mr Mainwaring, we're all doomed

Just an addition to Tom's excellent advice...

Amazing that you hadn't needed to adjust it before. Whenever I change cars, the mirrors are never in the right place!

Doomed indeed. Don't forget that in future the computer will be driving the car, not us!😀

As always, I'd just like to point out it is now over 50 years since Ford fitted Wing mirrors 🤣

I was being too polite to state that as Bunty is still very new here, didn't want to scare her off 🤣

I'd just like to point out that the black text is proving quite difficult to read against the dark background, Stephen. It would probably have worked better white, or outlined white if your editor offers it.

Regarding the need for adjustment, if the mirror body had been knocked and partially folded I'd have thought it ought only to have needed to be sprung back.

I aim to please 🤣

Just reverse it into another dustbin.

After re-reading the OP, and mansplaining the glass adjustment, I realise they could be looking for a powerfold type switch instead.  Though I don't think the Mk1 ever came with powerfold function.  So just pushing it back to fully open may be all that's needed.

I think you're right there Tom.👍

The Ford Focus Owners Handbook is always a good place to look for information about the vehicle:
