2016 Mk 3 Service engine warning no light

Featured Replies

Afternoon,

I've had our 1l ecoboost focus since new.  Regularly serviced with no problems until recently.

Of late when driving the car seems a little sluggish as if it doesnt have the grunt anymore.  When driving on the motorway in 6th if you try and accelerate hard a orange box comes on the centre dash that says "Service engine now" you click OK and it disappears leaving only the orange "I" in the box at the bottom.  All power drops off, and its quite scary when it happens.  But no engine light comes on just the orange "I"

After I pulled over and turned off the car, all the electrics off it goes away.

Ive driven it to a garage once this happened and they couldn't tell me anything.  The checked and said there'd been no codes active.  They said they could only help if the engine warning light came on, which to date it hasn't.  They suggested we have it serviced as a precaution (it was only a few months off its next one anyway).  But it hasnt helped.  I bought a OBD2 bluetooth reader but it doesnt show any active codes, when this comes on.

Has anyone had anything similar with this car?

Thanks

Jeff

You won't read Ford specific DTC's with a generic bluetooth reader. You need to use FORScan with either the approved vLinker cable or one of the vLinker phone dongles.

The message "Service engine now" is a very badly worded warning by Ford. It has zero to do with servicing your car. Many Ford vehicles have the alternative message of "Engine Malfunction" which is far more accurate. Possibly not politically correct to have the message "Engine Bu99ered" but that is what it's trying to tell you.

Get FORScan and find out what the DTC's are, then you can move forward with getting it repaired.

FORScan (for use with Windows Laptop) : https://forscan.org/download.html

It's what many Ford owners use including some Ford technicians.

vLinker FS, cable for laptop: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Vgate-vLinker-Adapter-FORScan-MS-CAN/dp/B0952P4MLP

vLinker FD, for android phone: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Vgate-Bluetooth-vLinker-Scanner-Diagnostic/dp/B08H82WC8L

Have you changed the spark plugs, or have proof that they were changed?

The power drops off quite a bit when they're worn.

Also, check the one way valve hasn't come adrift in the vac hose from the pump to the vac control valve as this can cause reduced boost.

I just hope it's not belt issues and about to go bang

Thanks for the advice.

I purchased that vLinker cable and connected it to my laptop.

I got the code P0299:00-68

After youtubing a bit it seems the easiest option is to replace the vacuum pump valve. The go from there.

Thanks again
