2020 Focus Vignale Gearbox Fail

My sons 2020 Vignale has done just over 20,000 miles - full service history. He was having trouble shifting into 3rd gear, so we ran it down to the local Ford dealer. They've remove the gearbox and said it's knackered and needs a new one. Ford wiling to contribute £800 of a £2300 bill.

Is this usual procedure / good will on a component that should last well past 20,000 miles?

Anyone else had any experience?

    Have a read of this thread, and the also the one linked inside. Failure of these gearboxes seems common place.

    Ford are not renowned for their generosity where goodwill is involved and this does seem in line with what we've seen in other cases (usually involving ecoboost engines.)

    Has the offer come via the dealer or direct from Ford? Some members have had limited success by involving Ford Customer Relationship Centre (CRC): [email protected].

    As Unofix mentioned, we seem to be seeing quite a few cases of gearbox issues with the Focus Mk 4, though you don't mention which engine/gearbox combination you are referring to?
