useful safety guidance or more annoying nannying?

The level of pure BS that gets introduced on a weekly bases in to vehicles is staggering 🙄

Sounds fairly similar to Fords EcoMode?  Apparently I was a perfect driver back in 2018.

Yeah, I had it in a couple of cars and it was quite easy to get a perfect score once you figured what it was looking for.

I've seen a more detailed explanation of the Renault system somewhere, which (as usual) I can't find when I want it. I'll post a link if I find it. The insidious thing about this system is the ease with which the data could be shared, possibly without you knowing, with, for example, insurers, or "the authorities" . So perhaps your premiums could be affected, or even your licence threatened, based on what it thinks you've done or may do.

The data itself will be flawed anyway - I've posted several times about false alerts with Intelligent Speed Assist because the system couldn't read a dirty/obscured sign, so that would be recorded as speeding. Similarly I've had Wrong Way Alerts because the system couldn't recognise I was in the right hand lane on a one way road, so another "crime" recorded there.

All getting a bit too 1984 or Minority Report for my taste.

'My' new truck, Iveco, lets me know if I've accelerated too harshly, which is too sensitive in my opinion. But it also compliments me on my smooth braking and excellent use of exploiting inertia!

It did tell me off once for harsh braking........ after someone pulled out in front of me and I had to slow down pretty quickly! 😀

Is it auto?  The dustbin lorries around here appear incredibly awkward to move short distances slowly...which is 95% of their job!

Yes, automatic.

All our bin trucks are also auto but don't think they have a problem moving short distances though. You do have to wait until the back finishes its cycle and then put it in gear, release handbrake etc so can take a wee minute to get going.
