Odd noise….

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

my 2006 1.8 focus has started making an odd noise from the engine… it sounds a cross between rushing water being flushed through something and when a large dump of rain hits the windscreen?! Random I know…

it only does it when the car is actually moving and not stationary. I’ve also noticed that if I drop it into neutral when moving the revs bounce between 500(ish) and 1000 rpm? Not sure if this is linked or normal…

just wondering if anyone has any ideas at all??

cheers

Manual or Automatic ?

Rain water is probably collecting somewhere when parked and then draining out when you move.  Next time it happens, stop straight away and see if you can see any puddles on the ground around the car, assuming the ground was dry before of course!

The other water rushing noise comes from large air bubbles in the cooling system.  So it might be worth checking the coolant level to see if that's dropped.
