Mk2 - 1.8 Flexfuel - Q7DA - Using / Burning Oil - Advice

Featured Replies

Looking for some advice please.

From what I understand these Engines can suffer from weak piston rings and therefore end up burning oil.

Anyone able to tell me a bit more about this?

After doing lots of long distance journeys (maybe approx ~1000 miles) the oil needs topping up with 0.5-1.0litres of oil.

This leads me to think the piston rings are going.... but I don't see any blue smoke from the exhaust?

Could it be something else that is causing this high consumption of oil?

On the 1.8/2.0 Duratec engines, by far the most likely culprit is the piston rings for causing excessive oil consumption.

Given that the engines aren't turbo charged, so you don't have to worry about the turbo leaking oil into the system (and it then being burnt), I don't think there's much else that could cause it to be honest.

The only other causes I can think of would be physical leaks out of the engine and you'd surely notice the loss of that much oil I would have thought.
