Key programming

Featured Replies

I have an 07 Galaxy, I have 2 programmed keys for it and want a third. I have programmed the fob of the new key and cut the key pattern. How do I programme the starter chip in the new key?

You may be able to do it with FORScan on a 2007, if not a key cutting company or Ford

If the two keys that you have are the original genuine Ford keys that were supplied with the vehicle when new, then it may be possible to code in the third key using the procedure below, which I know does work on a 2001 Galaxy. Read and follow the instructions exactly.

it cant be done without a programmer, auto locksmiths will not attempt it on a key they havent supplied and one i rang wanted £150 with their key,  i have 10 vehicles, most sorned but i keep them running, so i bought an autel km100e programmer £340, and did 7 keys that i,d bought and had cut so it,s paid for itself already and when i have more time, i,m going to offer key programming locally (south wales) to others who have bought their own blanks / electronics.

i also have a think diag bluetooth odb scanner £110, that does key programming but it requires 1 sometimes 2 existing keys in order to program a 3rd or more, that was fine until, on my ford fusion, i accidentally erased all keys,  then with the autel it has an all keys lost function so sorted it.

Why do you say that ?

According to the 2007 Ford Galaxy owners handbook, you can ask your Ford dealer for the instructions on how to do it. I would therefore expect that there is a way that an owner can do it themself.

It can also be done using FORScan and a vLinker cable on Ford vehicles built before 2013.

i can only comment on my findings,  i did find on a peugeot with my think diag programmer that it asked for a customer confidential code from the manufacturer / user documents from new, but that still needed the programmer.   apologies for making a generalisation, maybe someone thats actually used that method can comment

I've used the two key method on two previous Ford vehicles. A 1998 and a 2001 Galaxy, both times it worked without any issues. Ford vehicles 2013 and onwards require special "in codes" to programme the vehicle to accept a new key, hence it's a Ford dealer job.

This method only works on vehicles up to 2004.

Thank you @Dan62 for confirming that.

Do you know what method replaced it ?

According to the Ford Owners Handbook of vehicles up to 2013, it says to contact your dealer for instructions on how to add additional keys. That would suggest that there is still some means of an owner being able to do it themself.

Since James asked the question on Thursday, he's not been back to read any of the replies, so I guess it's not important to him.

I seem to remember it was removed to improve vehicle security with no alternate DIY option.

Thanks, well at least it can still be done by FORScan.

I wounder what "instructions" a Ford dealer gives on how to do it when a customer asks 🤣
