Duratec 2.0 Valve Cover Bolt Removal

Do you know if the valve cover bolts are removable? I have one with a damaged thread. It moves up and down in the cover but does not fall out.

    They are designed to stay in the cover so you can't drop them.

    Sadly the new cam covers are very expensive from Ford - Genuine Ford Cylinder Head Cover 5131753 | eBay

    I'm not 100% sure how they're held in.  It may be possible to cut the head off of the existing bolt in order to drop the rest out through the bottom of the cover.

    It's often the case with this kind of arrangement that the bolt simply screws through the hole. Maybe if you press or pull it back whilst turning anticlockwise it might come out.
