1.6 tdci engine cranking no start

Featured Replies

Hi guys, looking for some advice regarding my 2008 Focus (1.6 TDCI, G8DB)

So it happened that it was not used for rougly half a year and now it fails to start. It cranks, but the fuel rail pressure is way too low as per Forscan.

I have only one DTC P2459, but that's in relation with DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter Regeneration Frequency - Signal is above max treshold), which I'm aware of, but it should not prevent the car from starting.

What I have done so far:

  • refilled the tank 🙂
  • replaced battery
  • replaced fuel filter and primed a LOT: there is no air neither after the filter nor in the tank return tube
  • checked the wiring of the low pressure side solenoid of HPFP
  • removed the solenoid - with ignition on it definitely opearates, however I did not examine it with oscilloscope
  • check for leaks

The low volume - high pitch sound of HPFP is present, however it never stops if I leave the car with ignition on. If I remeber well, this sound was present only for 10-15 seconds - I guess until the required pressure is reached - and after it stopped earlier when the car started normally. Is that the case or I'm wrong?

The next suspect is the fuel rail pressure sensor, but I don't know how I could test it and there is no related DTC.

I attach the Forscan oscilloscope log of two failed starts. RPM is fine, but FRP does not builds up. On the second image, there are 3 starts. 2nd, 3rd start shows an even lower FRP (before 1st starts I primed by hand).

So what do you guys think? All advice is appreciated, please save her 🙂
