PayPal verification query...

Featured Replies

I've had a PayPal account for 20+ years. Was trying to make a purchase just now and it wanted to 'verify' me. It only gave me one option, to do it via a call to my landline. (Normally I get 2 x options which includes my mobile no.).

On using the landline, I answered it and inputted the 4 x digit number that was onscreen as requested. However, there was no confirmation, and the voice just repeated it wanted the code. Tried getting another call, same thing. Is there a way to force PayPal to use mobile to send me a text as obviously their landline system sucks...

Sign into your acount and peruse the options, if i need validating they send a text to my mobile. I only need verifying if i've used c-cleaner

Thanks for that, I did just that, can't see any option to make landline a 'secondary' number, both it & mobile are listed as 'primary' numbers, which kinda negates the point I would have thought.

Of course, trying to contact PayPal is pretty impossible, despite an 0800 number...

if you persist you can actually speak to someone, had cause to do it a while ago when my bank got hacked £1200 verified as a scam so had to wait for the wheels to turn to get refunded and new cards issued. Had to contact all my usual payees to let them know i may pay late.

Can you remove the landline number?  Then it'll be left with no option but to use mobile.

Well, I thought that  would be a solution, but it won't let me as PayPal apparently needs 2 numbers to be registered! So I would in theory need a 3rd number available before deleting my landline. What do they think I am, a drug dealer? LOL

Paypal seem to be doing everything possible to make their company undesirable...  They must have lost so much trade since the split with ebay.  And I'm still reading complaints about them online regularly!!  Rarely use it myself nowadays.

2 step verification winds me up but at least that's usually text or email.  Many people don't even have a landline nowadays so it seems daft for a website to demand 2 numbers!

PayPal is not as clever as it would like to think it is. The phone numbers can be the same just as long as you give them a different 'Tag'

I have 3 registered, but two of them are the exact same number with the following tags.

"Mobile"

"Home"

"Work"

In my case the mobile and the work number are the same. This means I can if I want to, delete the home number.

Mine has had the same two numbers for about the last 4 years since I gave up my works mobile.

Sshhh... don't let PayPal know, they'll only screw you up LOL

Just tried to check mine, as I never usually put my real home phone number anywhere and doubt I would've put it here.  But I can't on the laptop without going to get my phone for the 2-step verification text.  No email option.  Sod that then.

Some may be aware that PayPal had a widespread outage today, to be fair, I've used it for 20+ years and this is the first time I've known it to 'crash'. Anyway, I had an issue when it came back online, I had to 'verify' myself. As above on the first post, PayPal automated a call to my landline and the 4 digit code I was asked to enter again wasn't accepted.

Anyway, I then managed to phone PayPal (not as long as you may think) and explained my issue. Their solution was to delete my landline number from my account, so that any future verification would default to sending me out a text code.

Feel weird only having the one phone number now registered with PayPal but I guess millions of others only now have the one number... progress... eh!

I don't know why you had to verify yourself Stephen, I used PayPal for an eBay purchase less than half an hour ago and didn't have to do anything different.

Maybe you have two step verification turned on?

Just over an hour ago I used PayPal and had a slightly different screen and it sent a One Time security code to my phone. It's never done that before so not quite sure what the issue was.

If you 'google' PayPal outage, you'll read loads on systems failures today. Their mainframes went down causing havoc worldwide. I guess there are simply minor hiccoughs in using it as they get back back on stream. It has effected customers in different ways...

its them russians cutting the cables 🙃
