Those big win tv draws Elephant in the room

Ok so on the face of it the prizes are wickedly good. Huge houses, cash and others with their Lambos and high powered super cars.

But after the euphoria has passed in comes the obvious flaws. Firstly, council tax on a huge house, obviously enormous bills and out goings. The cars, massive insurance, maintenance, filling it up every 6 minutes, the speeding tickets, the lack of car when points run out for said speeding tickets. And not to mention the no sleep because of the worry of waking up and your super car is in a container off to a really nice guy in eastern europe for a sizeable chunk of ill gotten gains.

Does anyone else think a big chunk of cash is better than having the above for 10 minutes before selling them on. I think it's just cruel. And you couldn't even drive the cars, unless you want to insure it first for a day, back to cruel and unusual.

I seem to remember that one of the prizes in Bullseye was a Speedboat 🤣 completely useless for most of the population.

Or the Dusty Bin from 3,2,1 that everyone won if you didn't have a Da Vinci code brain and a quadruple figure IQ.

The thing about winning a multi £Million house, most 'normal' people would simply sell it! In the same way that again, most sensible people who buy a new Focus, could also afford to buy a used Aston Martin, or Rolls Royce. But the first time something serious went wrong with it, couldn't afford to get it fixed! Even my own lowly LX, cost me a bag of sand a few years ago, but I've spent well over that keeping it on the road!

Reason why so many 'rich' people find themselves bankrupt, because they spend right on the edge of what they earn. If a rich person lived like a normal citizen, they'd be set for life...

Watching old episodes of Bullseye often makes me cringe.  Inappropriate jokes, awkward questions about contestants lives (often with really boring answers), and when they do win, Bowen physically drags them across the set to the prize area without any change in emotion.   I do like trying to answer the questions though.  Many of the answers have been lost to the passage of time already.  I find the same with old eps of Catchphrase, some of the phrases have been out of common usage for so long that I don't get them even after the answer has been given.

Back to the topic, cash is only useful with access to trade it for something suitable.  A wad of cash on it's own is no use to anyone, just worthless sheets of paper.  To make matters worse, it's constantly losing 'value' every day that it's not being traded.  I never understand when people say 'cash would solve all my problems'...they must be incredibly lucky if that's genuinely true for them!

Getting property or gold is more useful long term.  And even artwork, as long as you know what you're looking for with long term interest, not something that will become undesirable in 10 years time.  And in the same vane, a supercar will hold value (not necessarily new value, but you've got it free anyway) and will be insured if it gets stolen.  You can keep it in storage and just take it out on special occasions, keep another car for daily use and parallel parking outside your Victorian terrace.

Personally, I think that (and this speaks to the older Prize Shows, more than the current ones) winning a Holiday would have been one of the worse outcomes, had I been fortunate enough to be in such a position, as they're just too subjective: one mans heaven is another mans hell.

I don't know (because, as I say, I never been in that position), but I would have thought that some negotiation would be in order, so that one could take a cash alternative: cash is king, but that said, one does need to understand what 'cash' is and how to manage it, due to the massive inflationary characteristics of any fiat currency and as such, (and this has already been noted) holding on to cash, is not a wise thing to do.

I watched the 1% club last night and rarely for me I got the 1% question correct. Though it was a moot point as I got numerous ones wrong on the way to it, so never would have actually reached it LOL

I didn't watch last night as I thought it was repeat.  I'd never play one of those games in real life for exactly that reason though.  I'd rather gamble little & often, building a pot, and be assured of something at the end.  Always feel sorry for the people that travelled all the way there and go out on the first question, just sat in darkness for an hour before leaving with nothing!

I'm sure they get a selfie with Lee Mack, so not a total waste 🤣

Sounds like me in my younger days late 80s on the pull in nightclubs till 2am. The hottest thing I went home with, a lukewarm burger from a van. Everyone say Awwwww! 🤣🤣
