Thumping noise when driving

Featured Replies

Hi all and thanks for any help.

Was driving home on Friday after work and could hear a rhythmic thumping that got faster with the speed. This sounds only happened when the steering was to the right (even just a fraction) when it was to the left no sound at all.

No thumping when stationary.

Thumping when moving and in neutral

Car is 15 plate with 80+k miles Ford focus titanium auto.

Any questions please ask.

Hi there,

I had a similar thumping sound and it was uneven wear on the nearside rear.  I could feel mine when I ran my hand over the tyre surface as regular pattern of high and low spots.  Garage thought it was probably just a tyre issue.  New tyre sorted it and its not returned in over 3 years / 30K.

I had something similar with a loose adhesive wheel weight.  In a straight line it was fine.  But when the the wheel turned it shifted under centrifugal force and unbalanced it.  I temporarily refitted it with blutack...still on there 6 years later.
