2 Coolant Tanks? - 2020 Ford Focus

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I have a Ford Focus EcoBoost 2.0L Diesel.

I was checking the fluid levels for my engine and noticed that the second reservoir was a bit low. I looked through the manual, but it doesn't mention this particular reservoir. Could you let me know what it is and what I should do in terms of filling it up? I've attached a photo for reference.

Any advice will or links to online resources will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

All EcoBoost engines are Petrol.

All EcoBlue engines are Diesel

All EcoBoom engines are broken 🤣

The intake air charge cooler( intercooler) has its own cooling system independent from the main engine cooling system. Has its own radiator and electric coolant pump.

at mine, the left tank past the max mark, and the center tank completely empty...

As has already been posted above, it's coolant for the water-cooled intercooler.  If it's empty then the intercooler, pump, reservoir or pipework are damaged and need to be repaired.

This isn't critical like the coolant in the engine, but the pump is likely to get damaged if it's running dry.
