Am I the thick one?

Featured Replies

I have mechanical questions that zero people on the net have an answer for, and search engines assume im asking a different question.

One example. Im going to guess rotors, but what would cause a brake pedal vibration at 60+. NOT, i repeat, NOT while braking, whilst moving.

Ive searched ford forums, general mechanic forums, 2 renault forums and a vauxhall forum... Nothing about while moving, only whilst breaking.

So am I missing something here?

Could be a warped disc

Wheel needing balanced?

Does it vibrate up and down or side to side, how do you know it is vibrating and is anything else vibrating?

Non directional, hence vibration instead of pulse or judder. It can be felt in the other two pedals but its definitely coming from the brake pedal, and no. Nothing in the footwell, steering wheel or gear stick and its not making anything buzz or rattle.

Thats why i dont think its a balance issue.

Wouldnt that have symptoms while braking? Or be felt at any other speed?

There might be a tiny amount of wear in the pivot point of the Brake Pedal and when the car hits its resonate frequency at 60 it makes the Brake Pedal vibrate.

You could try to put a small amount of Grease at the pivot point to prove or disprove that theory.

Will do. Thank you.

The way I diagnose vibration problems is to hit the suspected part with the outside of a closed fist and see if I can reproduce the noise.

It is also worth checking everything related to the Pedals is bolted up tight in the Footwell and umder the Bonnet.
