2009 zetec problems after battery removal and charge

Featured Replies

So car was not driven for a couple of months due to injury so battery was dead. Removed the battery and fully charged it.

When ı put it back in everything seemed fine. Central looking working, lights on, etc. When ı put the key in and turn it once I'm met with selection/menu which is fine but When ı turn it to two the dashboard lights flicker and turn off, the needles judder slightly but don't move, the alarm light flashes, there's a screeching sound from around the passenger side glove box and sometimes it stops and there's a think sound from the back right of the car (uk drivers side) round about the boot area.

Anyone got any ideas of what the problem could be. Video included. Thanks in advance. Any help would be much appreciated!

Either battery is now damaged by allowing it to go below 10 volts, and so will have to be replaced. Or you have a bad connection of one of the battery leads.

Use a multimeter and measure the battery terminal voltage.

Even though everything else seems fine? When I first charged the battery there was an error at charge 4 but when I hit mode to restart it charged without any errors to 7 (out of 😎

new battery time

Yes especially if everything else is fine.

With just the ignition on the car will be drawing less than 20 Amps from the battery. When you try and start the car the starter motor will be drawing at least 300 Amps. A poor condition battery will just fail and the voltage will drop below the minimum that the car operates at.

You can get the same effect with loose or damaged battery leads. Check that they are fully seated on the battery post and are tight. Check that you can't move the cable about on the battery post.

Once a battery has been allowed to drop below 10 volts they very rarely fully recover.

I appreciate the help thanks. Just used a starter power bank there and the car started no problem. Off to amazon now for a new battery. Thanks again!
