Front end impact

Featured Replies

The other day a driver reversed into the front of my car at a junction at about 6-8 mph maybe more but I certainly felt it. Initial inspection by body shop revealed a cracked/damaged front grille and a wheel arch a bit out of shape. Was unable to get a full structural check done there and then. Does anybody think there is likely to be further damage and is something likely to weaken some time soon?   Insurance informed for non fault but third party cannot do anything until next week as not having all I fo to hand due to holidaying but I have genuine details from them and my insurance checked these. Thanks

I wouldn't expect anything else to weaken over time.

But if there was enough impact to bend a wheel arch I wouldn't be surprised if the AC condenser or intercooler were damaged.

Also worth checking the horn still works and screenwash bottle hasn't cracked towards the top if that's fitted ahead of the wheel arch.  Along with all lights, parking sensors, and radar if fitted.

Thanks. Haven't got sensors but everything else will get a thorough check . Will certainly check air con when out later and keeping a check for fluid leaks. Thanks.

Out of interest when it goes in I have asked for a full check and the estimate has pre and post VEH diagnostic checks included on it. Will these checks show any faults in the steering system as I believe Fiestas have electric power steering? Thanks.

Yes the Mk8 Fiestas have a very simple electric PAS setup with the motor on the steering column.  I doubt any damage will have been done to that from a front end impact.

I'm afraid I don't know what type of diagnostics will be used if that's an accident repair centre rather than a Ford dealer.  If they can access Ford specific codes then yes, any steering codes should also be shown.

Many thanks. The place I intend to use is a Ford Authorised centre, really top quality. Escribr research is mentioned on the estimate if that is anything to do with it.

I've never heard of 'Escribr' before.  Looks like it might be a typo for 'describe', though maybe it makes more sense in context.

Yes,no reference to it on a Google search. Much appreciated.
