Hi all, The Tailpipe needed replacing due to the part that the rubber hanging bracket fixed into broke off leaving it hanging and banging against the chassis. So i saw a few blow up details of the system and they all showed the Tailpipe connecting to the rear silencer with a D clamp so i ordered the new pipe and it definitely should fit the pipe exiting the Silencer but when i got under the car i saw that there was no D clamp connecting the pipe to the Silencer, in fact it looks like the rear silencer and tailpipe are all 1 piece making it virtually impossible to replace. The only option is to cut the Tailpipe where the new Tailpipe would match up to and join it there but where it would need to be cut is virtually impossible to get to with an angle grinder or hacksaw so could anybody tell me why i have a different system than it should have and any suggestions as to how to overcome bearing in mind i'm 73 and laying under the car is not my favourite thing to have to do.

You don't have a different system. What you have is the original factory fitted system which is one continuous pipe from front to back.

No easy fix. It will have to be cut in place.

You can purchase exhaust cutting tools, there are many on ebay.

Well you learn something new everyday 👍

I would have tried cutting it with and electric/battery reciprocating saw (I don't have one but it was all I could think of). I didn't know they actually made a tool specially to do the job  😀

Lots of exhaust centres use this type of thing, they are very quick. (Also used by the scum who steal catalytic convertors as they are quiet!)

I just wish they had been around when I was working at Ford dealers in the 1970's, when we were changing exhausts on Cortina mk3 & 4.
