A lot of new in-car tech is “not necessary,” survey finds
Partially automated driving systems scored particularly poorly.

Good thread title! I've been using that for years...

Personally I think some of the new tech is potentially dangerous. I have a particular dislike of electric parking brakes. As I understand it (feel free to disabuse me) if the car suffers a breakdown the parking brake will automatically engage when the engine stops, preventing the car from being moved to a safer location. Does anyone think EPBs are a good idea?

If the engine breaks down, the parking brakes with still be operational. Only likely scenario is if the battery packs up with under 11 volts. Then a jump pack will release it.

Meanwhile, while you've got the bonnet up connecting a jump pack you get hit by an oncoming HGV.

Two seconds to release a mechanical parking brake.

But in the flat battery scenario I mentioned  your unlikely to stop in the middle of the road,

That scenario is more than likely at home or carpark/ work etc.

So you release the mechanical  parking brake in 2 seconds Then what when the hgv comes along? Your going to push the car on you own , good luck with that.
