Rubbing noise when turning

Featured Replies

When turning sharp corners such as pulling out a space i get a rubbing sounding noise. No grinding. When idle, i can turn the steering wheel from lock to lock and theres no noise. I am going to look at the cv joints to see if they need grease or it could be because i have cheap tyres. While driving normally i get no noise so kinda rules out wheel bearings for me. Any toher ideas. Steering rack, steering pump, brakes??? Ford focus mk3 1.6

Has the car got the correct size (width and offset) wheels fitted ?

Are the tyres the correct width ?

Has the steering rack been replaced ?

stock wheels and correct tyres. original steering rack as far as i am aware

Difficult to hear on laptop but that noise may just be dry rubber boots on the CV joints unless you can feel it through the car.  The ribs get squashed together at full lock.  Could try lubricating them with something before you got to the hassle of checking the joints underneath.
