Ford Focus 2018 DAB No longer working

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a issue with DAB, ir was working then a software update happened and the DAB has stopped working, it says stations unavailable and when I try to search all I get is a spinning circle. I have done a hard reset and still no joy, done a factory reset and still no joy!

Any suggestions on what it could be please..

Ford have quoted me £156 for a diagnostic to see what it could be but carnt get me in for few weeks.

sounds interesting - try to see if you can get more updates

the whole UK DAB fiasco has caused lots of fun - you also don't say what model ?

here goes why we get fun....

UK jumped very early with DAB using old tech - broadcasting was limited due to interference with loads of other systems and very sporadic in reception - the idea was more or less abandoned !

in Feb 2016 we started over again with DAB+ a totally new tech and transmission std that is not backwards compatible - but is less appalling

but as the UK like errors and messing stuff up - we still dual broadcast the OLD rubbish and the NEW rubbish (with both getting compromised signal strength)

a great example of where your tuner lies is in trying to hear TalkSport - if you hear only TalkSport 1 and can't find the other - you only have a DAB Tuner - if you see and hear both 1 and 2 you have a DAB+ tuner

in germany to avoid the hell the UK got, in 2016 they killed off DAB transmissions forevermore - when we enabled the dual broadcasting - early DAB and DAB+ devices in high signal, high station number reception areas often fell over after suddenly discovering a channel list far exceeding the 99 channels it was programmed to believe possible

multiple car manus had this bug including merc and peugeot - the merc tuners just crash in an endless loop till a software patch was released (Merc Oct 2016 and Pug 2018)

if that wasn't enough the BBC then started to push out channel logos and tuners that were clever enough to see them fell over under the strain of the extra logo transmissions - with I believe ford getting an update to cope very late in 2023

Half the issue is dual broadcasts, the other is german antenna's that function like a drinking straw made of sodium

Unfortunately, there was a problem with the early Focus Mk4 and the APIM units. Many were totally 'bricked' after a software update and the only fix was to replace the unit. Most units were replaced while the car was still under warranty, but some owners never did the update and so some cars didn't get the APIM replaced.

You need to first try disconnecting the negative lead from the car battery for at least 20 minutes. Then when you reconnect it wait 5 minutes before turning the ignition on. This will cause a full reboot of all modules and in many cases cure the problem.

Tried and still no DAB available.

I know it's unlikely, but is there a source to download a previous version of the software (prior to the update that broke it)? I have discovered a couple of Android apps that self destructed on update, but I managed to find an online source to re-install the version that worked. (then I disabled 'auto update' on them).

It is just possible that the DAB aerial amplifier/isolator has died (they do that  from time to time).

If you use FORScan to read the DTC's it will tell you if there is a problem with the aerial amp/iso

EXAMPLE of code using FORScan, of a problem with DAB module. 'Lost Communication with the module.

===DABM DTC U3000:42-08===
Code: U3000 - Control Module

Additional Fault Symptom:
 - General Memory Failure

Status:
 - Previously Set DTC - Not Present at Time of Request
 - Malfunction Indicator Lamp is Off for this DTC

Module: Digital Audio Broadcast Module
===END DABM DTC===
