Low 12v Battery message

Featured Replies

I keep getting this message in my car (Ford Fiesta ST-Line Hybrid) after it's been sat for a day or two. First hybrid car I've had. ls this normal? Is the 12v the hybrid battery or the main battery? actively try to use it more. Taking longer routes to where I need to go or just take it for a run out and hope it charges the battery but then don't drive it for a day or two after a week of using it everyday and get the message again. don't use it much. WFH half the week and Its done just under 800 miles in 5 months (since got it). Any advice greatly appreciated. Starting to annoy me. Don't know whether it's someone to ignore or if it's a battery related issue. Thanks in advance.

Hi Scott,

12v is the "normal" battery under the bonnet. Masses of threads on 12v battery issues on Mk 8 Fiestas/Mk 4 Focuses. Most recent here:

Kinda negates the modern fixation on being 'green' LOL Modern cars seem to have been designed with so much cr*p on them that a battery drain is now part of car ownership. You need to resign yourself to a monthly routine of charging your battery up overnight so that you're not left stranded.

Many on here use the following charger which is both inexpensive, and very functional. You need to connect the -ve lead of the charger to a body earth point (just bare metal) rather than the -ve post on your battery otherwise you'll bypass the BMS - Battery Monitoring System, and your car won't know it's been charged, modern cars are pretty dumb!

MayPole battery charger...

One could argue that manufacturing a brand new car to only do 150 miles a month isn't very green either... :whistling:

Indeed you could, and a bike** might be a better bet. (Though of course we should remember some people have issues which require a car.)

** I was going to say "e-bike" but remembered they have batteries too..........😀

True, that's why you should always consider, 'used'. It's already manufactured, and you are genuinely 'recycling'... 😂

Of course, you forgot to mention that e-bikes are an abomination! They also have a tendency to burn your home down, though to be fair, the Jaguar F Pace also has the same issue, and USA owners have been told to park their car outside only (not in integral garages), well away from property till they try and fix the issue 🤣
