Transit 2.0 EcoBlue randomly overheats - DTC, P0217

Featured Replies

Currently looking at a 66reg. Transit Tourneo 2.0 EcoBlue for a friend. It mostly runs fine and then at any moment it can suddenly give a warning of "Engine Over Temperature" and it will go in to limp mode. This can happen on short or long  journeys and at any speed.

Did a scan of DTC's with FORScan and the only one which is significant is P0217. I suspect the other "Ux xxx" codes have been caused by the battery being disconnected and reconnected multiple times.

Other than replacing the thermostat (which I understand has been done), anyone have suggestions of what to check next ?

If there are PID's for Cylinder Head, Oil and Coolant temperatures then I would Live Monitor them.

If everything is working as it should then I would expect there to be not much more than 5C difference in temperature between them all right from cold to full temperature.

If the Coolant is more then there could be a problem, not sure what though.

Hi John, thanks for the reply. It will now be over a week before I can get chance to do some tests with it, but will certainly see what PID options are available in FORScan.

Just got a message back from the owner 20 minutes ago, the thermostat has not been changed but the temperature sensor has been changed twice !! 🙄

I'll run the tests and depending on the results, I think a new thermostat could be the next move.
