Gearbox codes

Featured Replies

Hi all, not been on in a while but that's usually a good thing as it means all is running well I feel, but not no more, major issue with my transit courier  again this time the gearbox has exploded.  (engine last year)

I'm looking for any information on the codes as I have a 6 speed 1.5tdci with gearbox code H1BR7002DFD, how important are these letters as it seems an exact match is near on £700 but I have seen a Fiesta box with same code just last 3 letters ADF, again question is are these the same as the engine where they just bolt on different electrics and ancillaries so would I not be able to transplant my linkage and sundries?

Thanks in advance for your help.

No.  The gears are physically different sizes inside to create different gear ratios.

H1BR is the vehicle code.

7002 means manual gearbox.

So it is the final letters that need to match.

Gearboxes from other engines will physically fit, but if the ratios are wrong it can cause issues with the PCM and things like cruise control.

Thankyou for your reply, I'm looking to buy a gearbox this week so am very interested in the opinions.

So if not worried about cruise control the ratio of a Fiesta gearbox would that be more economical than that of a van as the van would be geared to haul weight? The van basically does motorway runs so is a commuter vehicle.

It's not just cruise control, the PCM mapping is partly based on engine speed vs road speed as well.  There may be some unusual driving characteristics and potentially worse economy in some situations.

I just don't have access to enough info on either gearbox to state exactly what the differences are.  So it's entirely your choice on whether to try a different one, but my recommendation would be to stick with the original if possible.

Ok so I'm struggling as there seems to be no gearboxes with my code on them out there.

I think I will have to take a chance and buy one that looks the same to get us running, also these are not cheap a 5 speed can be bought for a few hundred but the 6 speed near on a thousand.

On another note the van has had an engine change last year anyway from a 2018 to a 2021 engine, needed to change a couple of parts but it all ran well.

I can't see an engine change causing an issue to the gearbox unless something went back wrong.

Thanks again for your help
