Mk2 ford focus uk rhd air conditioning colder on passengers

Featured Replies

Hi ford focus mk2 2007 1.6 zetec united kingdom Right hand drive none face lift

Air conditioning issue
The air conditioning is colder on the passengers side. On the drivers side it blowing out Ambient air temperature. The air pressure is the same. It the same if you have it blowing on the windscreen or the center or your feet.
The system runs on cables . When you turn the vents and they work fine. I'm puzzled. . Any ideas I can only see one electric Agitator what lives above the pollen filter and this works fine when you press the button. you can see it turn for the air re circulation.
Any ideas best wishes james

Most likely just low on AC gas.  Only the first 'half' of the evaporator gets cold, leaving the other half at ambient temp.

Hi had it tested  to day and on the pressure  gauge it comes up as green.  One thing. I have noticed is the bottom pipe what goes in to the evaporator.  Is very good dripping wet.  But the top pipe is not all that cold. .are both pipes supposed to be freezing?

No, there's bound to be a temperature difference because some heat has been absorbed from the air passing through the evaporator.

Hmm, not sure I'd trust that gauge.

Only the thin pipe should be freezing.  The thick pipe is likely to be warm.

I had exactly the same symptom when the compressor drive shaft seal failed on my 1.6 petrol.

This caused the gas pressure to drop. Having a used compressor fitted and the system re-gassed sorted it.

Just a curiosity. I thought the Compressor wouldn’t come on if the gas gets too low to protect the components?
Does the AC in these run with the gas really low then?

No, you are right.  There is enough gas for the system to work safely when this happens.  Just not enough for it to work perfectly.  That's why I wouldn't trust the gauge showing 'green' as it'll only be a small pressure drop.  The green section of the gauge usually covers quite a wide range.

Any idea roughly at what gas level its cuts it off? I know they hold around 600 grams.

When I took one of my cars that hadn’t been gassed for years it had around 350 in there when they evacuated it, but it was working fine at that level.

I don't know I'm afraid.
