Focus Mk3 - P000A

Featured Replies

Hi, as I bought mine Focus 1.0 Ecoboost (90hp) nearly month ago as so far no EML and no strange running beside sometime Auto Stop and Start acting up that what it's came I bought like that. I know battery was fine as it's had recharged recently.
Scanned it as Carly scanner founds fault with: P000A - Camshaft Position Slow Response (Bank 1)

Can I just chuck new sensor and it's would resolved problem or something realtion to service (which is high unlikely) as last serviced on Dec 23 99k miles ago which it's currently clocked 103k miles.
If it's sensor can someone pin point where sensor is, I hope it's simple access to replace sensor. I may replace two depend your recommendition.

(Yes I am aware it's anywhere on forum but not realtion to what fault I am currently and not corrected Ford model.)

It's more likely to be a dirty or failing VCT solenoid.  You can see the two VCT solenoids at the belt end of each camshaft.  If you're unlucky oil will have penetrated the wiring so unplug each one and check for that first.

I think I found problem... sensor O ring seen failed as I can see oily mess around sensor (with two brown wire at top).
Could be that leaks giving to poor reading of the sensor due oil is sweeping past sensor?

I'm not sure that is an O-ring failure.  Oil splatter seems to be coming from above.  I would check inside that plug for oil ingress as well.  Oil passing that sensor shouldn't cause any reading issues, only if it's contaminating the wiring.

Couldnt see plug had oily be honestly so I check on Carly live data as it's seen be intake position is fairly low reading.

UPDATE:

Here very weird somewhat I fixed problem, as I was going to attempt to order rules out of faulty sensor, since it's had two sensor same type (One for inlet and other is exhaust), as I had switched over two sensors, the fault code gone and the engine running better and quieter.
Give good long runs to see if fault returned but there no fault code at all.

I’m back and unfortunately it’s coming back again! 🤬

This time, stop and start will not functional even there ZERO warning light on dash or auto stop start button.

Swapping sensor didn’t trick and it’s also camshaft sensor ruled out, I guess ball park faulty VCT sensor at inlet.

This could be the end. If Stop/Start isn't functioning it might not be possible to save it from the scrapyard !!!!

Just be aware that there is a queue of 100,000 vehicles waiting to be scraped all with none working Stop/Start systems 🤣

Yes, try a new VCT actuator next.  There are loads on ebay, try to get one with returns if possible.

It’s sound like VCT faulty as I can agreed with you.

if it were bad cam sensor it would show up fault code as exhaust. So I have strong feeling VCT is might be faulty or dirty.
