Android head unit making thumping sounds?

Featured Replies

I have a problem with the android stereo i recently bought.. Ive had it installed a few weeks now and since then it has been setting my car alarm off. At first i assumed it was coincidence so left it and was happy with eveything else it was doing but it seems to be setting the alarm off by making thudding sounds through the speakers when the car is off and parked.it doesnt make a difference if i lock or double lock the car  It takes about 20 mins for this to happen so i assume the car modules are in some kind of sleep mode or power save mode ? The stereo then after the 20 mins turns the instrument cluster on and starts this thumping sound.
I put the old one back in and eveything seems fine , No Alarm or thumping sounds so it isnt the car.
Put new one back in and today its gone back to making the booming noise through the speakers and setting the sensors off on the car..
Any ideas? Alot of the cables used in the kit are not needed so i have put electrical tape over all connections that are not in use just to make sure its not a cable making an electrical issue such as a short and have made sure there are no loose connections on the quadlock harness?

Replied to your message, could be same issue I had when first fitting mine, could just show up slightly differently with my facelift being keyless start and entry etc compared to your pre-facelift

Yeah thanks for that appretiate it .

Does sound like it could be the same thing and like you said maybe a slight difference due to the age of the car.

Hopefully this fixes it because the unit really is jam packed with loads of features and runs really well other than when switched off..

Also did convert the sleep mode to not be on due to some people saying they can drain the battery if left in standard mode. Found that setting in the factory menu with a code.

Tried changing a few cables around and sadly hasnt helped in my case, going to send unit back as i assume its faulty 😔 The tech people where i got dont even seem to know whats causing it.

Are you looking for a replacement unit or refund etc?

Ive still got the Windows CE head unit I used before going to the Android one, the type which fits into the standard fascia and still has disc drive etc. Was all working fine when I swapped it out you’d just need a facelift fascia as it’s got the more oval shaped screen as below

sending the other one back and see if they give an option to exchange it.

I  dont think that unit would fit my console as mine has slightly different mounting points.as well as the mentioned facia .

Mine only has two screws in centre your faclift would have four with i belive two side plates.

Ive just chucked the old one in at moment as it was fully working just wanted a bit more gizmos and creature comforts as oposed to radio and cd only..

Fair enough, I’d not realised there were different mounting points between the pre-facelift and facelift versions.

Hope you can get a replacement sorted out, there’s so much more you do with the Android type units. They make the original Ford units look very aged now.

Main benefit with mine is having a reversing camera connected up to it as privacy glass and auto dimming rear view mirror make reversing at night a visual challenge even with beefed up reversing lights 🙄
