2014 Focus Ecoboost 1.0- Wont start "Engine Service Now"

Featured Replies

Hi all, im a bit lost on what's happening with this car. Its been fine for years, been serviced and full service 2 years ago (not ford garage). Had a boost issue and replace a vacum pump valve and been fine.

The other day the car stalled, driving off the path, and would not start. It sounded like it wanted to but then just nothing. Then the "Engine Service Now" message flashes up, and nothing.

I got a Vgate vLiner cable and downloaded the latest forscan, so i might be able to get some codes off it, but it wont connect? Comes up with a connected to adapter and shows the correct adapter, but then says "Unable to connect to vehicle".

I have also tried the ignition on and pressing the brake and accelerator to clear the warning, these did not work, and the car will not get past this or start.

So my two questions are

1) Is the "Engine Service Now" a possible failure of the wet belt? The car is 2014 plate on 69k.

and

2) Why wont the cable connect?

Any help is really appreciated

1.  Yes.

2. There is a fuse for the OBD port.  I wonder if that's blown?  Also make sure the cable plug is all the way in, they can be very tight if they haven't had much use.

Answer 1: extremely likely.

Answer 2: Are you using a Windows operating system on a laptop ?

Find someone with a Ford that you can plug your vLinker FS cable in, and at least prove your cable and laptop are working.

See attached picture:

I can confirm the following settings are correct for FORScan with the vLinker FS

Hi, thanks for replying 👍🏻

Yeah I was hoping for a different answer but knew it wasn't coming 🤣

Yeah checked and the cable is fully inserted and flashes correctly.

Cheers Tom

Bugger

We have a mechanic coming out today I'm hoping he can scan the ***** thing and then tell us what we already know 😲

So it's either a rebuild or recon engine then?

I'm never getting another ford

Cheers Uno, much appreciated for the reply 👍🏻

Oh it's windows 10 btw👍🏻

Do you know anyone else with a Ford that you can try plugging into?  There is a chance that the ECU has failed which could prevent a connection and an engine start...  Though if you've got a mechanic coming, you'll soon find out whether it's your cable or the car at fault.

You can buy a brand new engine from Pumaspeed.  That's a much safer option than rebuild or recon for these.

Set everything possible to auto on connection page

tick auto connect box

ensure ignition on
