Knocking after timing belt change + 3.5k in service

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some advice regarding an issue with my car. For context, I purchased a 1.0 ecoboost focus in August 2023, but due to my university's no-car policy, I've only been able to drive it for about four months since.

Back in August, I heard an intermittent knocking/tapping sound and took the car to the dealership. I suspected it could be related to the wet belt issue, which I hadn't addressed yet. After an inspection, the dealership quoted me £3.5k to fix various issues and make the car "whole" again. I spent my savings on those repairs since I'm a university student.

Unfortunately, two days after getting the car back, the same tapping noise returned but it was now a constant. I brought it back to the dealership and explained the situation. After 10 days of inspection, they told me the car now needs a new engine due to faulty or broken bearings. I'm expecting a hefty bill for this, as they've already said they’ll provide a quote in the next few days.

As I don’t have the funds for an engine replacement, I’m feeling stuck. It doesn’t seem like the dealership is going to cover any of the costs, and I’m not sure what to do next. I've also attached a video of the tapping sound in case anyone has insight or advice on what could be going on.

Any help, advice, or insight would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

Other than saying you have been totally ripped off by the dealership and that you should never use them again there is little more advice I can offer.
