Speed camera vans

Featured Replies

On a dual carriageway if a speed camera van is in a layby and your speeding on the opposite side of the carriageway with a central barrier in between will it catch you speeding or does it only monitor one side at a time?

If you can see the van it can see you. The laser detector can be directed out of the front and/or back of the van.

So what if it's only pointing out back?

You'll still pass it no matter what way it's pointing!

It will record your speed as you approach it.

Plenty of info about cameras on this website. As you can see from the pics in the various articles they could get you from front, back and side from (I believe) 1km away.

Also in use are hand held laser cameras which are difficult to spot, as I can testify, and can point in whichever direction the operator chooses. In my area a motorcycle officer uses them, so it you do spot a police motorcycle parked up with no rider, quite possibly they'll be lurking somewhere with the laser gun!

Sounds to me like you've been doing 22mph in a 20 zone. 🤣

Got caught doing 93 in a 70 on a DC. What can I expect with a clean license 🫣?

My mate lives in Wales, he's been done twice for speeding, one at 22mph & one at 24mph, the roads was previously was 40mph & 50mph and safe, on both occasions the van was hidden at the bottom of two hills, it's a lousy idea with this 20 malarky crap and causes road rage daily, some stick at the 20, some drive like they used to do cutting up the driver who is trying to adhere to the stupid speed limit, think he told me its about £200 & 6 points.....soon get banned for such mega high speeds 🥴

Wonder how much revenue they getting since this 20 crap.

See if you can get the same judge as Mr. Edwards, and you'll get let off and given a pat on the back 🤣

Huw to his pals at the BBC

Picked up a car in Treforest (South Wales) recently. Got overtaken by a lady pushing a double buggy whilst worrying about a van that was about 2 inches from my rear bumper.

No need to worry, he was just slip streaming you 🤣

Who? :whistling:

It might be different where I live but up here I think if you are more than 20 mph above the limit then it is a court appearance and more than 3 points.

Best to plead guilty early if it is the same.

Policies do seem to vary a fair bit from area to area.

If you're caught in my local force area, up to 86 in a 70 would still have a chance of a speed awareness course if you've not had one in the previous 3 years.

Over that, and you may be offered 3 points and a £100 fine, or if it's "considered very high speed" (and they don't specify what that is, but I suspect 93 would be) it's a court summons.

39.4 mph in a 30mph zone is £100 and 3 points or awareness course. Just saying 🤔🤔🤔. Or go to court , ouch!!

Don't know how accurate that is but it's off a gov money helper site.

Up to 42 in 30 to qualify for a course in my area. It was cheaper than the fine when I had one a few years back and we don't want those nasty points, do we?

Bizarrely a friend of mine actually opted for the fine/points because she felt the course would be judgmental and humiliating! (Mine certainly wasn't as I explained to her, but her choice!)

Received a conditional fixed penalty £100 & 3 points needless to say ill be accepting that 😂 will I be expecting to hear anything more or will that be it 🫣?

That will be it. I just paid my £100 to the government , and licence details for the 3 points. Don't forget to inform your car insurance company of the 3 points. They will want more money too.
