Transit mk4 minibus tyres

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have a ford transit mk4 Asquith body minibus,on a twin wheel mk 4 with banana engine.

its 1 inch two high to go in my garage.

its fitted with 195x75x16 tyres,I understand if I fit 195x65x16 this will reduce the height by 1.5 inches.

what problems maaay I find if any by doing this ,or any alternative ideas.

many thanks

Is that a reduction of the radius, or the diameter.... ?

The first thing is you will need to use FORScan to re-calibrate the speedo which will be significantly wrong.

The ride and handling will be a lot harder.

VERY IMPORTANT: The reduction in height will only be 3/4 inch

Usually we'd lower the suspension rather than take an inch out of the sidewalls.  You might find it needs a bit of both as a compromise.

I'm not familiar with the suspension on a Mk4 Transit though.  Is it leaf springs at the back?

You may be able to buy different mounts or have the leaf adjusted slightly using heat.  It's probably worth asking over on the dedicated Transit forum as it's a bit too niche for this forum.

Don't put it in your garage. Sorted.

or just let the tyres down to put it away, and blow back up in the morning🤣

Yeah, I had thought about it too. Easy.  But why would you? I mean buy a MK4 transit mini bus . 🤣🤣

It’s not just a transit bus it’s a Asquith wedding bus built on a transit twin wheel base
