Auto Gearbox Specialist in or near Lancashire.

Featured Replies

Hello Everyone - I have a 62 plate Zetec 2.0l auto with what I suspect is one of the "dreaded" problems; the Input Shaft Sensor. I have had various quotes and advice right up to replacing the whole box, plus clutch and torque convertor. The problem is I don't know who to trust and there seem to be no cheap options. If I have to pay a hefty bill then I want to ensure it is a reliable firm and that I am not being ripped off. Does anyone have experience with firms in or near to Lancashire. Many thanks in anticipation.

I have a preferred specialist in The N. East but without any other knowledge, I'd look here on Google:

auto gearbox specialist preston

and on Google Maps (3 near centre of Preston) for reviews and discuss from there?

Thanks Shearers - I tried them and only one seems a serious outfit and they have stopped doing Fords. They put me on to a place in Manchester but got a silly price. I might just have to bite the bullet and go with them though.

Sorry to hear that, a very difficult decision based on the age of the car (like us!)

If down that far to fix the input shaft sensor (which I believe governs the clutch slip by measuring the engine speed?) it would perhaps be short sighted not to have a clean, check and rebuild, especially of the clutches/plastics & springs in the clutch housing?

This will obviously cost but if you can be sure (as far as possible) that there are no other massive repairs on the horizon AND you like the car then buying another will cost thousands to change?
A clear diagnostic and plan is obviously needed (you have changed the oil regularly and looked at the filter for evidence of plastics contamination haven't you?)

Hope you can make a decision that works!
