2023 Focus ST 2.3L Petrol - Re-start When Warm Query

Featured Replies

So, my 2.3L Petrol ST is less than a year old but when starting up Cold it does everything that you would expect - A good deep exhaust sound (love it) and away ya go

Now, here's my issue, when its warmed up a bit (so water temp 85c-ish and oil temp 70c to 90c) and you stop, say at the shops, switch off lock up etc, nip into shop and back out, jump into car and start it, then it is like a damp ***** and I am sure (paranoia kicking in now) that there seems to be a top end ticking briefly, my mind is thinking lack of oil to top of engine, but can't check Oil pressure at that point as dash is starting to come on / sort itself out etc

Oil pressure when cold 40psi plus - As a rule Oil pressure when running at normal temps has always been 30 to 32psi

Anyone else any experience of this or a similar issue ??

Anyone has any problems or is it normal ??

I personally don't think any cars do this and I would expect hot or cold starts to be similar ??

Thoughts anyone ?? - Much appreciated

The exhaust sound is normal. It’s much louder on cold start. The idle revs are higher. It’s running richer, etc.

And it will tick a bit, it’s got high pressure direct injection and a timing chain.
