Ford Focus Ecoboost wet belt etc

Featured Replies

Hi Anyone,

I hope someone can help me out please, I took my son's car on five years ago after he passed away.  I had his car fully serviced and MOT'd beginning of May with all the work carried out it cost me just over £1500.00.  Two weeks later I was driving in Aintree when the car stalled, after several attempts to re-start it couple kind gentlemen tried to jump-start the car for me, but as you can guess it's not easy trying to get a keyless car jump start.   Anyway to a long story short called AA who told me that I would need a brand new engine because the cam belt had broken in the engine and if I got a second hand one the same thing would happen again.  It was a good job I had my sister with me at the time has as soon as he told me this news I had breakdown in front of the AA man and she had to explain that the car was previously my sons and that we had just spent over £1500.00.  So what I'm trying to ask is I've now heard a rumour that I might be able to get a little discount off from Ford towards a new engine, I understand is there isn't don't worry I won't be having another breakdown. Thank you for any help and advise you can give.

Elaine

Hi Elaine,

Very sorry to read of the circumstances under which you got the car.

The cambelt on this engine must be replaced at 10 years maximum as a normal service action. Was this carried out in the recent service work?

There are many rumours circulating about the Ecoboost situation, but unfortunately most of them are just that. There are very many threads on here about the issue but Iirc the only instances we have seen of Ford offering a small contribution is on cars only just out of warranty, full service history, etc. Even then new engines can be sourced more cheaply elsewhere, e.g.
