Tdci to eco blue change over month/year

Featured Replies

Hi

Just joined this morning so I apologise if this question's been asked before. I'm thinking of upgrading my 64 plate tdci titanium nav to a  newer diesel model but love my tdci. No problems with great mpg. When was the ecoblue introduced as I'd prefer the lasted tdci available which also has a dry belt of course? I'd really appreciate your thoughts. Thankyou

Which size?

Sorry 1.5.

1.5 TDCi lasted until the end of MK3.5 Focus

All Mk4 Focus are the Ecoblue, which is also a good engine and dry belt (in 1.5 guise only) but does have a chain linking the cams

Sorry 1.5.

Oops.

Thanks Dave. Do any of the 1.5 ecoblues  have wet belts? Is the chain linking the cams a problem for the future perhaps? Do you happen to know what years, if any , were problem years for the 1.5 ecoblue?

We've heard of a very tiny few that have had the chain linking the cams snap, but that could be down to poor maintenance.

Oil changes are 10 months or 12,000 miles on these so I'd be changing the oil at least every 6,000

It's not a bad engine at all and the gearbox in the MK4 is stronger than the gearbox in the Mk3.5

1st gear has a torque limiter on MK3.5 to prevent gearbox damage

As with the revised 1.0 oil pump belts, these 1.5 EB chains seem to snap more often on the Facebook groups than they do on here.  Not sure why that is, potentially a different type of driver, or potentially Facebook comes up first when Googling.  I'm not convinced it is a maintenance issue with these.  There is a thicker upgrade chain available which you could fit for peace of mind when having the dry cambelt replaced.
