NOW FOR SOMETHING DIFFERENT.----BONNET WILL NOT FULLY LOCK

Featured Replies

Help please. Had the usual broken lock problem on wife's 2005 mk2 focus. Fitted complete new lock assembly but the bonnet does not now fully engage when down, i.e. the key only requires a turn to the right to unlock and raise bonnet. Seems that the bonnet is not fully engaging as no audible click when key turned to the left. Lock tested with screwdriver and fully engages requiring left and right key turns to open. The "spigot" on the underside of the bonnet seems ok.

Is the new lock exactly the same as the old one? Sounds like the bonnet is hitting its bump stops but not coming down enough to engage the lock?

You could screw the bump-stops in on both side but you’d risk messing up the panel gaps to fenders etc and perhaps some other issues

Did you just replace the Bowden cable,(that holds the locking mechanism), or also replace the actual lock locating mechanism as well?

You may need to just loosen off the latch and see if you can reposition it a little bit.
