Dropped clip into cylinder!

Featured Replies

So I was changing the leak off pipes and clips (again, finally got genuine fords) and as i was pushing the last one onto cyl one, ping, out my hand and straight down the intake port (i had the manifold off).

No luck fishing with magnetic screwdriver tip, and can't see it with a torch. *****.

Stupidly, I thought I would turn the engine over with the injectors unplugged to see if it would blast it out. It did not and Im worried its now gone past the valve into the cylinder...

Now to take the cylinder head off i need to spend 3 months removing the turbo and all sorts.. ive ordered an endoscope and flexi magnet in case a miracle happens but worst case it's chilling on the piston..

Im good with cambelt replacement etc but wanted to avoid removing exhaust/turbo

if i disconnect the downpipe from the turbo would i be able to lift the cyl head say an inch or so to retrieve said clip (and do gasket if needed)?

what do we reckon. mrs is ready to kill me

Ya see, that's why I take my car to a garage LOL 😂 Best of luck buddy, hope this has a happy ending...

still no closer. i've started stripping the head ready to remove it, amazon obviously isn't delivering until 8.45pm so i won't know where it is for sure until then..

i've found it.. chilling on top of piston #1 .. joys

Glad you got it back, but if you removed the head from the block, you do know that this generally requires the bolts to be replaced right? Rather expensive way to retrieve it. 😕

Though still cheaper than a new engine 🤣

so i managed to get some good access with a telescopic magnet. the clip has been obliterated and made into tiny parts. i spent 2 hours fishing and got what i'd call 80% of the clip out comparing parts to an in tact one.

spent several more hours trying to rebuild the engine and so far so good, refitted cam belt re-timed etc etc

only thing now is my bleed tool for the diesel filter has perished and wont work any more so tried as i might it wont fire but turns over without any smashing or banging

got code for fuel pressure too low

new bleeder on the way

i hope so much it runs 😞

so it runs all fine etc but sometimes at a junction i put my foot down and it just has no power or kangaroos slightly? got home found the airpipe to turbo from airbox was apart, i'd forgot to jubilee it back on, is this likely the cause?havent had time to do another test drive

I'd have thought the ECU is programmed to expect the turbo boost so very likely! Only way to tell is to put it back together properly and take it out again.
