Last year I got my car comprehensively insured for £287. The renewal letter just came through, and it has gone DOWN to £255!! (reduction of 11%)

I know, I can't remember my car insurance ever going down, this getting older lark must at last be paying off 🤣

👍

there are age thresholds you must pass to get reductions.

Trouble is, after a few more years you start to pass other thresholds and get increases again!😀

This is odd. I mentioned elsewhere I'd been doing a bit of research in anticipation of a price hike when my wife's insurance renewal came through. It just arrived this morning. Checked the documentation carefully for any errors, monkey business, etc but all as it should be.

Last year: £185.76

This year: £144.99

Almost 22% reduction! She must have passed a "good" threshold!😀

Insurance was a topic on This Morning the other day and for want of a better word prices are a cr2pshoot with no discernable rhyme or reason, hence why legislation is being brought in.

Well that's bound to help if the government is going to step in, we can all expect at least a 500% increase 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Ah yes, remember the wise words of Ronald Reagan:

"The most terrifying words in the English language are: I'm from the government and I'm here to help".

My insurance steadilly increased over the years of course, as did my son's who is in his forties.  When it did go up more than what I considered to be an inflationary amount I shopped around and changed.   Insurers appear to see the safest age range about 40 - 60.  After retirement, mine stayed in the £300 -450 zone until I was 80 and then went up by 70% .  Understandable  some would say.  I shopped round and the best I could do was a 40% rise which is my current policy. However,  I do have four named drivers on the policy. all over 40.

I would certainly  like to know the name of Eric's insurers for next time!
