Buying used form dealership

Featured Replies

Hi , I went to look at a focus 1.5 ecoblue vingale today ,I loved it it was a beautiful car ,anyway I looked round it took it for a drive a wanted to buy it so the sales man said if we get the figures right will I buy it I said yes , so we go in he takes my details then he does the usual and goes to the back room 😊  he come out with the offer  , the was marked up for £11695 he comes out with these figures,  he's "giving me " a 24 month warranty....for £800 he's "giving me a wheel protection thingy where they'll repair them if I scuff them....for £325 and finally he's "giving " me a paint protection thingy...for £300 ! Total £13,120  now call me old fashioned but when you negotiate a price isn't it supposed to come down am I missing something??

They don't make money on used cars any more.  They either have to sell you finance or insurances on top.  You can refuse of course, but you won't get the price to drop lower than the forecourt price nowadays.

The joke of it was when he asked me if I was happy with the offer I said no he then said he would take the extras off so the car would be the same price we started with 3 months warranty and then had the cheek to say I was getting £ 1300 off !!!

Wasn't that the "education, education, education" policy, so in theory folk now should be 3 times smarter?

It didn't work, obviously.........😀

Yeah, that's pretty much bang on the retail price for that car.

Not a common engine & spec combination so if that's what you want then you're unlikely to find a cheaper one any time soon.

I suspect todays salesmen were educated under the Coalition of Chaos...which could explain it.
