Engine oil and filter...fully synthetic.

Featured Replies

I have a 1.6 mk7 fiesta 2011 Ti-vct and only does low millage a year,like 3k.

It has fully synthetic oil in it on every service,i want to get my own oil and filter but which would be the best 5 litre tub and make filter.

Don't want to pay silly money just a good oil and filter at a resalable price for me to do myself,i can have the service without oil and filter then.

How much less will the service cost without the oil & filter change?

Nowadays you're looking at about £40 for a bottle of Ford spec Castrol Magnatec and a known brand filter.  It's probably not worth doing yourself if you still intend to have the rest of the service done at a garage.

I was thinking that,i did use to have it done at a good garage which stamped my book but i just want the service now, don't think stamp would gain a lot how old it is.

I know a friend who is a mechanic and got a small garage, know him for a good 20 years and he said £100 for the service, looking at all my services it had fully synthetic in,i forget now but think it was 5/30 or 40.

Oil should be 5w30 for these.

Tbh if you're not getting a stamp there's little point in having a garage service.  Most of the safety checks are covered by the MOT.  So really it's just the oil & filter change that is being done on the service.

Air filter & spark plugs last years between services on a low mileage car, but are easy to do at home anyway.

We have the same engine, and I use the below - in the RH column was the price last year.

Shell Helix Ultra Pro AF 5W30 5 litres 25.62
Mahle OC 1051 7.25

or the other filter I've used is a

MANN W7008

EDIT apologies that oil price was from essentially two years ago - it's about 35 GBP now.  I usually buy it from Pipercross on Ebay.
