Fiesta 1.0 MHEV 2021 Engine Noise

Featured Replies

Hi guys.

I have recently purchased a Fiesta 2021 MHEV ST-Line X with roughly 25,000 on the clock. It’s my first eco boost.

I have noticed that during a cold start (engine off for at least 8 hours), It makes a really loud ticking / knocking noise for around 45 seconds, before the revs dip to below 1000 on idle. Then all goes silent. It’s hard to hear in the video but I’m not talking about the ticking of the engine, it’s a deeper more sharp noise.

I have consulted my trader, a personal mechanic and they all seem to think it’s normal, however, I wasn’t convinced and I am seeking advice from long term fiesta owners.

I have uploaded a short to YouTube so please check it out.

I would love a sound explanation on what is actually causing the noise. I have been told conflicting things; some saying it’s the secondary fuel pump, others saying it’s piston slap. I just wanted a concrete explanation to be able to sleep at night.

Many thanks!

Also 2021 MHEV here,

I don't know what the noise is, but, if it makes you feel better it doesn't sound different than mine 😄

Hello, Ford Focus 1.0 MHEV from 2023. The same happens to my car and I have the same question!

Same here. Thought it was just me.  2020 mhev fiesta 19k miles. I am getting it checked out by a reputable mechanic in the next few days. It could be a normal characteristic of the 1.0 mhev engine but always best to get it checked.
