2023 Ford Fiesta Titanium X - Wheel Sizes

Featured Replies

So I'm considering getting different wheels for my Fiesta and would like to get a different size.

The label inside of my passenger door frame says that the only wheel size for my vehicle is 17", but various websites says my vehicle can have wheels ranging from 15" to 18". I would like to get 15's due the abundance of terrible potholes around my area.

Will 15's fit? Is the label just for wheel sizes that are offered from Ford from brand new? Will 15's physically not fit?

Hi Alex,

As you say the label says what it does, most likely because as standard Titanium Xs have 17" wheels.

15" wheels will definitely fit because Mk8.5 (ie the 2022 facelift) Titaniums had 15" steel wheels with trims as standard (the 16" alloys became an option...). With the 15" wheel the standard tyre would be a 195/60.

I just did a quick rough calculation using willtheyfit.com, which suggests that the nominal diameter of a 195/60 on a 15" wheel is only 1.3mm different from a 205/45 on a 17" wheel. So if you changed to a 195/60 tyres on a 15" wheel there'd be no significant effect on gearing or speedo error - should be a straightforward change I'd have thought.

The label normally only shows the pressures for the tyre sizes fitted as standard, or as factory options, for that particular variant. For example, my previous Mk 8 had 17s as standard, but 18s were optional, so both were shown. On the current one, it was 18s only, with no other option, so only 18s are shown.

The full range of tyres fitted to various 1.0 Mk8.5s is shown in the owner handbook online, though:

TIRE PRESSURE SPECIFICATIONS - 1.0L ECOBOOST™, MANUAL TRANSMISSION

The recommended tire inflation pressures are on the tire information label on the driver side B-pillar.
Check all tire pressures when they are cold, at least once every two weeks.
Note:   You may need to remove the spare wheel from the spare wheel well to check the tire pressure.

That is quite the comprehensive answer! Members of this forum are so good...

hi all

i have a 2023 fiesta active x and hate the 18-inch low profile tyres.

Could a non profile tyre be fitted to these wheels.205x40rx18

thanks turbocat

Not sure what you mean by a "non-profile" tyre? Assuming you mean a higher profile - not without throwing out the gearing/speedo. You would really need to swap both wheels and tyres to achieve the same rolling circumference.

Range of wheel/tyre sizes for the Mk 8.5 Fiesta  are shown in the handbook extract posted earlier, Ford did offer the Active with 205/45x17 at one point, but I think you'd need to go down to 195/55x16 or 195/60x15 as in Alex's query above to notice a great deal of difference. Fitting 17s or 18s with low profile tyres to a car like the Active with its "rugged" image did seem a little odd.

(You can have a play about with various combinations using the calculator Blair mentioned earlier (willtheyfit.com - there are other similar sites) but even a 175/50x18 which is pretty skinny would still throw the speedo out.)

Thanks for your help and advice, Roger.i did think of

using the 205 x 45 x 17 at one stage, but has you say would probably be little différance. The 205 x 45 x 17 were standard on the fiesta active, the 204 x 40 x 18 standard on fiesta active x.has you say cannot understand why these were standard on these cars.

Yes but remember if you change the wheel/tyre size you will need to re-calibrate your speedo, otherwise it will be showing your speed as too fast or too slow. It of course also effects the number of miles recorded.

Still you have a couple of months to think about this since we are still in 2024 and your car is in the future 🤣

But not if sticking with the Ford "official" alternatives as mentioned. Rolling circumference is virtually identical.

I'm looking forward to the launch of the 2025 Fiesta too!😀

One other thought occurs to me, Jim. Mk 8 STs also come with 205/40x18 tyres, and a few owners have reported replacing them with wider 225/40x18 on the standard wheels.. The reason is that the 225s can often be found cheaper than the performance 205s for some reason.

This does however give an additional 8mm of sidewall depth (225-205=20x40%=8mm) and apparently gives a (slightly) more compliant ride, bearing in mind the ST is "quite firm"😀.

One disadvantage is it does, again, throw out the speedo reading and apparently under-reads by 2-3 mph at 70. As most owners reported their speedo over-read slightly as standard**, this makes it spot on, but does remove any margin of error if caught by a camera.

(** might not be true of an Active, of course)

Another point is it's not an"official" Ford fitment on the Fiesta, unlike the ones noted above.
