Clock change after a non-Ford Head unit swap ?

Featured Replies

I am about to put a non-Ford head unit into my Focus CC. And given the clock changes for Summer/Winter, how do you go about changing the clock on the instrument cluster if the Ford Head unit has been replaced ?

I’ve always changed my clock settings through the cluster menu.

Is that option not available? Usually have to do it with ignition on but either engine not running or car not being driven for the option to come up but it’s there in settings menu

You don't.

That was my guess, as I could not see a way of doing it without the unique clock button on the Ford Stereo.

There is a way.

The date/time is stored inside the instrument cluster. The original audio system communicates over the CANbus network to the instrument cluster and acts as a interface to show and set the date/time.

There is however a workaround to change/set the date/time without an original audio system connected. To do this you have to activate the FFH (Fuel Fired Heater) inside the instrument cluster configuration using a suitable diagnostic system. Once the FFH is activated the instrument cluster menu contains additional functions related to the FFH. One of these functions is the ability to change/set the date/time from within the instrument cluster menu. After the date/time are set it is strongly recommended to deactivate the FFH to prevent error codes.

May have been that I did this using ElmConfig many years back when I first changed from the original Ford head unit, just can’t remember back that far 😕
