2010 handbrake ratchet

Featured Replies

Rear brakes sticking on my lads fiesta.

Removed the plastics etc on the handbrake to slacken the cable, cleaned drums etc. Only to find that the ratchet no longer works.  Looks as though the spring (I assume) has come adrift.  Can't see it being so fragile that taking the covers off would do that, surely!

Anyone else had this? Is it repairable or do I need  a new lever?

Could have done without it a week after a hernia operation.....

Dave

To clarify, handbrake doesn't lock in the on position

The rod had come off the locking cam - pushed button in, levered cam with a long screwdriver until the rod dropped into its location, gently released both and it's fine.

Still don't see how taking the covers off caused it.
