focus mk3 alternator issue

I bought my focus mk3 1.6 2012 6 months ago. just after getting it the battery light came on. I put a new alternator and battery on. same problem, battery light on. charging volage is up and down 11.8-14.6v. car had a new alternator on when I got it and thought it was a bad recon. auto sparks said try a genuine ford second hand one. tried that, light is now off, but have no alternator output. Alternator to battery has continuity. alternator plug to fuse box plug, and grill shutter is fine. blue/brown wire on fuse box plug has about 8-9volts. battery was replaced like for like, but is not a silver calcium. will this make it not work. BMS has been reset. can anyone run through any potential problems and testing. Is the smart charge operated by a module? unplugging alternator does not go into std charge mode. forscan did say lost communication with alternator and grill shutters. grill shutter plug is fine. driving me mad please help.
