Sync 4 - Reception Issues

Featured Replies

Hello,

I own a 2024 Transit Custom LWB , and I love it.

My problem is that the FM reception on the Sync 4 unit is absolutely terrible. I am comparing it to my car a 2022 Ford Kuga , and there FM reception in this vehicle in the same areas the the transit registers POOR reception is very good. The SYNC4 will not even use the AF alternative frequency , as it cannot pick one up. And YES I HAVE gone through ALL the varied settings over the 3 months of ownership of my Transit Custom.

My transit has gone into the local FORD  DEALER for a SOFTWARE UPGRADE this morning and I asked that if the upgrade did not solve it what was the next stage, I suggested the changing of the SYNC 4 unit or antannea , connecting cable or all 3. The response from my FORD DEALER was less than inspiring. If we can find a fault FORD WONT REPLACE IT. The problem also with my Dealer , is that they reside in an area of GREAT RECEPTION and the time it takes to drive to an area where my system is registering poor reception is not practical

Now some people may think I am mad, but let me place my cards on the table, I am a trained TRANSMISSION ENGINEER and work for the NATIONAL NETWORK and have a very in-depth understand of how radio transmitters work and the varied power levels receivable in the areas that I am experiencing low levels of reception, and to stay the least , the sheep in the field beside me should be "GLOWING" with the level of transmission power available in the areas where my SYNC4 is hissing and spitting.

Has anyone here had a similar experience ? Has any one here got information as to accessing the rear of the Sync4 ? (so I can check the connections)  unit as I am NOT expecting a positive response from my dealer , can anyone here help ?

Thank you in advance

I would take it to another dealer if you can, raise a complaint with Ford CRC and if they can't fix it reject the vehicle

I have the same problem, can’t pre-set radio stations, I’ve tried umpteen different locations but can’t get a signal FM or DAB most irritating, the focus I had was fine until I carried out a factory reset. The Kuga with sync4 I have is useless as well. I can get stations no problem by other means but can’t set the up as pre-set

Perhaps @roryob could update us all on how he's getting on next time he visits the forum ?

I visit the forum regularly, to see if there are any responses. So far FORD have been totally unhelpful . At this stage i am going to try sand remove the unit form the dash over Christmas and check the connections at the back of the unit. Anyone here got any instructions / diagrams on the removal of the unit ?

Finally the problem has been resolved. I removed the roof liner and found that the cable was not connected properly to the antenna
